Millennial Pro: Alex Richardson

Bossier is home to many young professionals and as the next movers and shakers who will take up leading our fair city to further prosperity, it’s time you meet some of them!

This month’s Millennial Pro is Alex Richardson. He lives and works in Bossier City, is a firm supporter of the arts, and self-proclaimed nerd. Let’s find out more…

– What do you do?

I work as an Optical Office Cleaner on nights Monday through Thursday, I intern at the Bossier Arts Council on weekends, I work the BPCC News during the weekdays between classes, and I do freelance graphic design between it all.

– Why?

I work the cleaning  job for bills and the occasional spending money. I work the internship at the BAC to work in and with the community and the arts while gaining experience and making connections. I work the BPCC News to help pay my tuition, and I do freelance graphic design because it’s my passion.

– What is a normal day like for you?

I get to BPCC by 9 a.m., where I attend classes until 11 a.m., clock in for the BPCC News, go to one more class at 1 p.m. before returning back to the News to continue work. Then I head out to Willis Knighton and cleaning the Optical Office and Exam Lanes, before leaving and getting home to work on either schoolwork, freelance work, or personal/recreational activities. Then weekends are getting to the BAC at 11 a.m., doing whatever my tasks are until I get off at 5, and possibly walk down to the Queue Tavern Bar for a drink.

– Why do you live/work in Bossier?

I live and work in Bossier because I am attending college. But that being said, I enjoy Bossier and would still live/work in Bossier. I take pride in my city and want to be a part of the group that helps it flourish.

– What is your favorite thing about Bossier?

My favorite thing about Bossier is strangely that we can’t be labeled as one thing. To some we’re the gambling hotspot of northwest Louisiana, others see us as just Barksdale Air Force Base, while some just think of us as the sister city of Shreveport. And through these titles and more, it allows the city do to so many unique things that don’t seem out of place or unusual, allowing us to just enjoy them as they are.

– Where is your favorite hang out spot and why?

I’m a nerd, so my favorite hangout spots are places like the Queue Tavern and BC Comics, while also enjoying local coffee shops.

– What is your favorite thing to do in Bossier?

My Favorite thing to do in Bossier is participate in art events or other fun happenings, whether I’m selling my own work or volunteering as an extra hand.

– What would you like to see Bossier have in the future it doesn’t have now?

I’d love to see more studio apartments for people who pursue a career in the arts.

– What do you want to accomplish in the future?

In the future I plan to be a Talented Arts Program teacher to help the talent of young, skilled artists flourish.

– If you could tell other people one thing about life in Bossier, what would it be?

I’d tell them that Bossier is a fun city that as far more to it than you’d think, provided your willing to take the time to look.
