Lovin’ My Job in Bossier: David Brossette at Margaritaville Resort Casino

Bossier is known for its growing business community. So it’s important that we get to know the people who make up all the important industries and businesses. Let’s find out why they love their job and what makes where they work so special.

David Brossette is a human resource manager for Margaritaville Resort Casino. The 49-year-old father of 4 says that his two boys and two girls are a blessing in his life who have given him much entertainment. He likes to spend time with his chocolate lab named Jackson and go fishing and duck hunting on Toledo Bend almost every weekend. Let’s get to know more about his work life in the gaming industry.

1. What do you do at Margaritaville?

I have been with the ‘Ville prior to opening and I love it! I get paid to guide our crew members through difficult situations, whether it be professionally or personally.

2. Why did you want to work at Margaritaville?

David BrossetteI was excited because it was the new kid on the block, the new shiny object and I wanted to be a part of it. Once onboard, I knew I had made the right decision. During the numerous job fairs and meeting the thousands that showed up, you couldn’t help but get excited for what the future held for everyone joining the team. There was so much excitement and energy, and I’m proud to say that five years later we still have that same passion.

3. What is your favorite thing about working there?

The crew members. We really do have the greatest. They are what has made us a serious competitor in the market. When you really sit back and look at it, all the casinos offer the same amenities. What separates us from the competition is our crew! Our success begins and ends with them. We work hard at making sure those we hire have the ability to complement the current crew and assist with driving us towards our goal of being number one in Northwest Louisiana. They have done an excellent job in embracing that challenge and it shows in our growth as a property in this market.

4. What does Margaritaville do for its employees that makes you feel appreciated?

A lot. Most companies have recognition programs, but we recognize our hourly and salaried crew members with a crew member and captain of the quarter program that allows us to honor those individuals seen as going above and beyond. We allow them to bring a guest, eat a good meal, receive $250, a dinner in our awesome steakhouse, a nice trophy to display and have their leaders explain why they’ve been recognized. It’s a special moment for them and their invited guest as well. We also have a CEO Suggestion Program that allows our crew to provide suggestions that will positively impact the guest experience as well as suggestions that will improve their experience as crew members. We also have a Guest Service Award Program that is driven strictly by our guest comments. This allows our crew to be acknowledged in the presence of their co-workers with a nice ceremony, with some fanfare as well as our leadership team in attendance. With that said, we really feel that it goes deeper than those recognition programs. It’s the daily acknowledgement from our leaders to their staff to say, “Thank you, you did a great job.”

5. Is there anything about the culture of benefits of your position there that sets it apart from previous jobs?

I’m allowed to be me. I don’t have to conform to a certain style or corporate setting. We have the empowerment to be ourselves and that makes the ‘Ville special. It’s easy to recruit people to our property when the image that we have in the community is one of fun, community involvement and goal driven initiatives. People have a desire to be around those who are successful and confident and our crew members have those qualities.

6. What would you want other people to know about your workplace?

We’ve reached great heights, such as BIZ. Magazine’s Best Places to Work 2016 and 2017, and our crew members have made that possible. Reaching success is difficult, but maintaining it is the biggest challenge. That’s where the communication becomes important and the voice of our crew provides the direction. We’ve done an excellent job as a group that has created a culture that embraces our diversity, recognizes our talents and rewards our efforts.
