Communities of Faith Serve Bossier In Unique Ways

Gone are the days of dressing in your Sunday best and sitting for hours in a church to listen to a sermon, only to leave and not return until the next Sunday rolled around. Reaching the busiest generation of our time requires more than the traditional church service, and Bossier Parish’s faith-based organizations provide countless opportunities for families, the local community and the world. Be Bossier has gathered some of the most unique classes, support groups and ways to get involved that our churches have to offer.

South Bossier Baptist – The Life of a Single Mom

The support of others in a similar situation is good for the soul. South Bossier Baptist offers single mothers a place a to meet twice a month to open up and encourage each other as life throws curveballs. Each meeting is on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month and includes childcare, meals, gifts and door prizes.

The Pentecostals of Bossier City – Los Pentecostales de Bossier City

In 2008, Colin and Malinda Webb felt the call the minister to the Hispanic community in Bossier. That call led to Spanish-speaking services at The Pentecostals which then led to an entirely new building. The Current Center is shared with the church youth while also housing services dedicated to reaching the Hispanic community. The English-speaking and Spanish-speaking congregations fellowship, strengthening the ties that bind people together to grow their faith. Today, Los Pentecostales has an average of 45 members who gather for twice a week services.

First Bossier – Guiding with Grace

Sometimes, women need a listening ear from an older woman who’s “been there” and that is just what the Guiding with Grace program provides for young women. A “pearl” (a mature woman) is paired with a “gem” who is a younger woman, to share her knowledge and experience and to help her gem grow in her spiritual journey. Pearls and Gems meet at least once a month to invest in and inspire each other.

Simple Church – Do Good Store

The Simple Church is well known around town for their simple message to “Do Good”. We see the shirts, the pens and the notepads, but did you know you do not have to attend a service to get these items for yourself? The Do Good store is located at the Louisiana Boardwalk, featuring not only t-shirts and stationary, but it also offers one of a kind products made by individuals from the countries the proceeds benefit. Get all your holiday shopping completed while you (you guessed it!) Do Good.

ChristFit Gym – Donation-based Gym

A church can be anywhere people meet, so why not meet at the gym? ChristFit Gym was founded to provide free, donation-based workouts to anyone who can attend. Each of the wide variety of classes offered is started off with a trainer led devotional to influence and motivate members to grow themselves physically and spiritually.

St. Jude Catholic – Disciplemen

Power tools, paint and man talk? Yes, please! The Disciplemen group at St. Jude convenes twice a month for bible study while also utilizing their wood-working skills to make Christmas yard angels and nativity scenes. The Christmas sets are then sold to raise money for seminarians’ tuition and fees. We all know tuition can break the bank, so the Disciplemen use their God-given talents to offset this cost for their fellow parishioners.
