Jump into September With These Bossier Events!

In September there is just too much to experience in Bossier. Start your month with live races – whether it is cheering on your favorite daschund or your fave horse at the Super Derby, get out and place your bet. Also, plenty of nonprofits are stirring up a good time for audiences this month and their events are definitely worth attending and supporting a good cause. Hopefully all these Bossier events are just a taste of what we can expect for the fall season.

Labor Day Wiener Dog Races

It wouldn’t be Labor Day without attending the wiener dog races at Louisiana Downs. Journey to the track to see the best of the best compete to be named the fastest dachshund. Thirty-two pups will compete. Bring the family for food trucks and fun.

Super Derby 40 

Spend your Saturday at the Super Derby for live horse racing and family fun. Start the day by meeting the jockeys for an autograph signing. At noon, watch the first race of the day. Don’t miss the Super Derby Ladies Hat Contest beginning after the live race.

Third Annual SIP Unlimited

After all the fun at the Louisiana Downs, the next day swing by Margaritaville for a wine, food and entertainment experience. As a tribute event to Kuan Lim, the owner of Lucky Palace, taste wine from around the world paired with incredible food. Tickets range from $75 to a VIP ticket costing $150.

Sixth Annual Dream Hunt Benefit Dinner and Auction

Enjoy a dinner and a special night for a good cause. The Dream Hunt Foundation was created as a nonprofit organization to help children with special needs or who are underprivileged to experience going on the hunt of a lifetime. Bid on 20 live auction items and enjoy an after party at Whiskey Roadhouse.

Highland Jazz and Blues Festival Preview Party

Though the actual Highland Jazz and Blues Festival is in Shreveport, kick off this musical celebration in Bossier City at Flying Heart Brewing and Pub. Enjoy a local band while sipping on locally crafted beer. Stanton Hoffman and band will perform from 6:30-9:30 p.m.

Full Moon Paddle on Lake Caroline

Experience the beauty of a full moon paddle on Lake Caroline hosted by the Ozark Society. Meet at the boat landing off Arthur Teague Parkway. You can bring your own canoe or kayak or reserve one of eight available for $10. Either way don’t miss this enchanting quest through nature.

Leola Gross’ ‘Forget Me Not’ 

Enjoy one of the most anticipated plays in our area. Watch two sisters try to navigate through their mother’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis. This play will take audiences through a trail of emotions. Tickets are $25.

Digifest South

Celebrate the relationship between art and technology at Digifest South. This signature event kicks off with a DigiCode Competition on Sept. 13, where students can enhance their skills by displaying digital works. Next, journey through the STEAM Expo. This two day event (Sept. 18-19) showcases some of the best exhibits, technology and tools. Round out the Digi events with an outdoor concert at 7 p.m. Sept. 20 in the East Bank District.

Taste: A Festival of Food and Art

Celebrate a nonprofit with a vision to provide for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Holy Angel’s signature Taste event is a sample of signature foods from around the Shreveport-Bossier City community. Guests can also bid on silent auction items. All proceeds benefit Holy Angels. Tickets are $70.

Better Than Ezra
