Bossier Milennial Pro: Jenny Russell Lazarus

Bossier is home to a slew of young professionals with hopes and dreams to be the next movers and shakers who will become leaders for our community. So it’s time you get to know some of them!

This month’s Millennial Pro is Jenny Russell Lazarus. Jenny is a graphic designer in Bossier City. An alumnus of Louisiana Tech University, she graduated with a Bachelor of Interior Design with a minor in Architecture.

After college, she landed an opportunity with a Ruston company designing outdoor kitchens and assisting with their marketing before being pulled into branding, which led her to a career in graphic design and marketing here in Bossier City. After seven years in the corporate world, she has established a busy schedule working her personal company, Lazarus Design Studio.

This August, she and her husband, Tim, will celebrate 6 years of marriage. Tim is a physical therapist at Brewer Physical Therapy at their Shreveport location. The pair enjoys trips to Arlington to see the Texas Rangers play and Tim is an avid deer hunter.

So let’s find out why Jenny loves Bossier and what her hopes and dreams are!

What do you do? I own Lazarus Design Studio in Bossier City. I am a graphic designer, branding enthusiast, decorator, visual speaker, and a helping hand to solve creative snags. I love all aspects of art and design – digital and mixed media.

I do day-to-day projects like design logos, invitations, business cards, and company brochures; but I also can build brands, rebrand, and consult on marketing options and collateral. Getting a new company, small or large, on their feet is what I truly enjoy. I find happiness in pinpointing vital aspects of a new brand like their colors, patterns and textures, go-to fonts, photography style, messaging, and even connecting those aspects to their physical space’s interior. Another love of mine is designing materials for weddings! I am able to build a custom theme for a couple across every aspect for one of the biggest days of their lives, from their save-the-dates, invitations, table décor, etc.

What I hope to do at the end of every project is make a client excited and confident in what they are doing.

Why? I have found that graphic design is my career of choice because I find a passion in it. Every moment I have that I could be doing anything in the world, I find myself watching tutorials on the newest techniques in Adobe products or researching new printing techniques. The creative world pulls me in everyday and I have no intension to push against it.

Why do you live/work in Bossier? I came to Bossier City when I began working at the Cyber Innovation Center’s educational model, the National Integrated Cyber Education Research Center (NICERC), then onto Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC).

What is your favorite thing about Bossier? Being from a smaller town, Natchitoches, I appreciate that Bossier City has great shopping through small boutiques and big name stores.

Where is your favorite hangout spot and why? Tim and I really enjoy the atmosphere of Walk-Ons on Airline Drive. It’s a great place to catch up with friends and family and grab a delicious meal.

What would you like to see Bossier have in the future it doesn’t have now? I would like to see restaurants like La Madeline, PF Cheng, and Grimaldis Pizzaria.

What do you want to accomplish in the future? My desire is to build Lazarus Design Studio within the Bossier City and Shreveport communities. I hope to extend my creative services into healthcare, education, and the local creative community.

If you could tell other people one thing about life in Bossier, what would it be? Bossier is a great place to raise a family. Bossier City is the best of both worlds: The city and the small town. The Bossier City-Shreveport community is able to enjoy an ideal event schedule with concerts, shows, and festivals, and includes a great school system and an abundance of churches.
