Base Culture: Barksdale Servicemembers Tell Us Their Bossier Favorites

Bossier City knows how to throw a good time for their military service and women, as well as their families stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base. Since 1932 when the base was first established, Barksdale residents have been two-steppin’, chowing down on spicy crawfish, and taking long walks along the Red River. We asked a couple of servicemen and spouses about their favorite places are in Bossier City.

  1. Two-Steppin’ at Big Country

“I’m from Michigan and was excited to try my hand at country two-stepping. This place is always a good time and also has pretty great karaoke.” – 1st Lieutenant Kyle Gladney

  1. Family Night at the Louisiana Boardwalk Outlets

“When my husband is in town, we love to walk around the Boardwalk with ice cream after dinner with our boys. They love strolling along the Red River and staring out into the water. ” – Cindy Fischbach, military spouse

The Louisiana Boardwalk Outlets is an outdoor shopping mall nestled on the banks of the Red River which features an IMAX movie theatre, restaurants, a carousel, and more than 60 outlet stores such as J. Crew, Nike, and Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World.

  1. Crawfish at Crawfish Palace

“I was very hesitant to eat crawfish when I first moved to Louisiana and I typically don’t like shellfish, but this place changed everything for me. It’s the best place to get a pitcher of beer and a bucket of crawfish.” – 1st Lieutenant John Yang

  1. Yoga and BBQ

“My husband and I love to go attend yoga at Aspire. Then we like to have a lunch date at Dickey’s BBQ Pit.” – Randee Goodman, military spouse

  1. Gaming at Horseshoe Casino

“One of my favorite things to do is to go to Horseshoe Casino with my friends. I’m not a huge gambler, but Bossier has some great casinos.” -1st Lieutenant Blaine Davenport

Shreveport-Bossier is home to six riverboat casinos and one horse racing track. Besides gaming, the casinos host awesome concerts and parties. If gaming isn’t your thing, you’ll love the annual Wiener Dog Races at Harrah’s Louisiana Downs.
