Base Culture Part 2: Barksdale Air Force Base Servicemembers Share Their Bossier Favorites

Barksdale Air Force Base

Bossier City continues to thrive with many entertaining opportunities for our troops stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base to enjoy with their families. For 86 years, our military servicemen and women have enjoyed great food and fun places to spend time with their loved ones. We asked some of our troops what their favorite things are to do in Bossier.

The Stage at Silver Star Smokehouse

The StageDavid Alvis, steakhouse restaurant entrepreneur, brought his delicious talents to Shreveport 21 years ago in 1997 with the barbecue hit, Country Tavern. He eventually opened Silver Star Smokehouse off E. Texas Street in Bossier City back in 2007 with the attached venue, The Stage, shortly opening a year later. It has since been a hit bringing in country music talents like Randy Rogers Band, Tracy Byrd, Stoney LaRue and Joe Nichols.

“We like going to shows at The Stage. I like that it is an outdoor venue, the staff is always super friendly and the food’s great, too!” -Laura Katherine Jayroe, military spouse

“One of my favorite things to do in Bossier is visit the restaurant, Greek Corner. It is in a small unassuming building but I have had some of the best, and cheapest, Greek food of my life there with my father. The hosts are friendly, and I recommend to anyone in the area to give it a try.” -2nd Lieutenant Jeremy Huggins
