Jairo Boxing Honors Family, Supports the Community

Whether you are a seasoned fighter, someone looking to step into the ring for the first time, or you are looking for a great boxing workout, having the proper equipment is essential. It enhances your performance and your safety. At Jairo Boxing in Bossier City, owner Jose Llanito is passionate about providing you with the best boxing equipment, so you can train like a professional and perform at your best!

Jairo Boxing is a Hispanic-owned business. They opened on Sep. 10 at 2058 E Texas Street in Bossier City.

“This was something to be proud of,” said owner Jose Llanito. “I don’t know how to explain it. I feel that we have worked hard and it was an overwhelming experience. It was a beautiful day but we were tired. The whole family had worked towards opening day.”

Many people from the community came out to celebrate the ribbon cutting for Jairo Boxing. Llanito said his mother’s church family came to the ribbon cutting and it made for a breathtaking experience.

Jose Llanito and his family are from the Desoto Parish area. In 2017, they began opening businesses such as a bail bond company. Llanito said they have recently entered into the restaurant business and got involved with the boxing gym to help out the community’s kids.

Jairo Boxing was named after the owner’s late first cousin, as a memory of his life.

“He was a young guy who had big dreams and he couldn’t make it, so this is a way to carry on his name,” said Llanito.

The business is family-operated. Llanito, his siblings, and his mom are currently working the day-to-day operations of the store.

Llanito also partnered up with Dement Brothers Boxing Club in Bossier City. This partnership along with the boxing shop was the next best thing to support the boxing community.

“We wanted a shop with the best boxing gear available. If anything is needed like wraps or mouthpieces then they can come here to Jairo Boxing,” said Llanito. “ A boxing gear store was not here in Bossier City; we are the first brick-and-mortar store here in Louisiana for boxing gear. We offer some of the best gear, Sting is a pretty big known brand. Cleto Reyes is a bit pricey but they are a well-known brand.”

Llanito believes the shop is going to be a great addition and resource for the community.

“More than anything I feel that we need the type of discipline boxing brings, it gives the kids here something different to do and helps to keep them off the streets. The kids have said that they have more confidence with boxing,” said Llanito.

Llanito explained that although he is not a boxer his passion and motivation for opening this family-operated business came from his interest in the sport. Watching boxing on Friday and Saturday nights was family gathering time in the home when he was younger.

“It has always brought a lot of memories for us,” said Llanito. “Unfortunately, where we grew up there was no boxing available. We did not have the opportunity to practice boxing when I was younger so we wanted to bring it to somebody who is 8,9,10 years old because we did not have that chance growing up.”
