Moving to South Bossier? Here’s What You Need to Know
Located in Bossier City is a flourishing community known as “South Bossier,” or “SOBO” by those who love and call this area home. South Bossier is home to many attractions, such as Brookshire Grocery Arena, one of Louisiana’s premiere concert and event venues. Other attractions include the Barksdale Air Force Base and Parkway High School. South Bossier is a growing community that is quickly beginning to fill up with new businesses in every corner.
South Bossier residents can expect to see many new restaurants, South Bossier’s first hotel, a strip mall, and a billiards hall. These new businesses will generate more revenue, provide job opportunities, and increase the property value in the community. Golden Meadows, Bellaire, and Shady Grove are a few of the well-sought-after neighborhoods in the SOBO community.
South Bossier resident, Donnita Greenwell Witherspoon and her family have lived in the Golden Meadows subdivision for the last 10 years.
“The school zones, amenities, low traffic, and the diversity in the area brought me and my family to South Bossier,” said Witherspoon.
Witherspoon has two school-aged children who attend the local schools in the area. AJ Witherspoon, age 15, attends Parkway High School. He enjoys participating in football, track and field, and FCA.
Adele Witherspoon, age 12, attends Elm Grove Middle School. She loves playing basketball, being part of the talented arts program, 4H, and advanced placement classes.
“They both love the support they receive from teachers and staff. The activities at their schools are well organized and inclusive to all students,” Witherspoon said.
She enjoys the communication in their neighborhood.
“Our neighborhood is big on communication. Especially during natural disasters, family hardships, and carpools. We also enjoy the extravagant Halloween decorations and trick-or-treating in our neighborhood each year,” Witherspoon said.
“South Bossier is safe and slow-paced. My family and I love spending time together exercising and walking in the neighborhood and at the Parkway High School Track,” Witherspoon said.
As a working wife and mom of three children, Witherspoon appreciates the accessibility to hospitals, grocery stores, and food. “We are conveniently close to essential services, locally owned boutiques, and the SOBO fall market. Access is a short walk or drive away.”
“Golden Meadows is a great place to raise a family because of the diversity in the community. As a military family raising kids, a
well-rounded childhood is important to our family,” she said.
As more subdivisions and families are moving toward South Bossier living, Witherspoon said she would advise anyone who is looking to raise a family in a more slow-paced and safe community with great schools to move to South Bossier.
“Since SOBO is expanding neighborhoods, many businesses are starting to take advantage of this opportunity to come to South Bossier,” Witherspoon said. “Savage Roots, Smith Farm, and SOBO Nutrition are a few of those businesses. This is a great way to increase property value and it’s making South Bossier an attraction to raise a family. The extension of the walking trail and bridge crossing over A.R Teague opens into a beautiful duck pond.”
Witherspoon says she would be excited for more local businesses to come to SOBO.
“My family is currently the owner of the North Louisiana Football Alliance (spring league) and appreciate all the support from our SOBO family!”
