Bossier Business Spotlight: Moore Active

Michelle Moore has been an entrepreneur for several years, and in 2016, she found a way to combine two of her greatest passions: building a business and fitness.

That year, she opened Moore Active inside one of her other local businesses, Fancy Pants.

“I worked at a gym since I was 16 until I was 25, so I lived in active wear,” Moore said. “I started a retail company, and I was like, ‘Why am I not selling active wear? That’s the thing I know most about,’ I just felt like a good blend of my past life and my present life.”

After several years, Moore closed the door of Fancy Pants and stepped away from the business world for about a year. However, she quickly decided that Moore Active had to come back.

“I can’t give that up,” she recalled.

Moore Active returned with a new concept in the Bellemead Shopping Center in Shreveport. The location featured a retail shop alongside several workout classes like spin, yoga, and even kickboxing.

Then, like many small businesses, the COVID-19 pandemic forced Moore to rethink the plans she had at the time. She made the tough decision to close her storefront and transition to a pop-up style model while operating two spots within two local tennis pro shops.

“We did that for five years,” she said. “Online sales, pop-up shops, and then I just got a wild hair and decided I want my own space again.”

In addition to being a retail owner, Moore works as a real estate agent for the area, primarily focusing on residential properties while also handling some commercial properties as well. During her search for a new space, she came across a great location on Airline Drive within the Airline Plaza shopping center. The property listing agent then became her landlord.

“He was like, do whatever you want,” Moore explained. “So, I got to make it exactly the way I wanted it and build walls, take walls down, put walls back up, and paint whatever I wanted to.”

The new Moore Active location finally opened its doors on April 1, with a grand opening celebration on May 1. Within the walls of this store, shoppers will find a carefully curated collection of active wear, accessories, and some of Moore’s personal favorites.

“It’s a little edgy, very sporty, and just a hodgepodge of things I like,” she said. “So, it’s me as a store.”

Among her favorite items are Gold Hinge skirts, which she first tested herself on the tennis court before bringing them to the store.

“Everyone needs a Goldhinge skirt,” she exclaimed.

The store also carries apparel designed for a variety of active lifestyles, from tennis outfits and yoga wear to versatile gym-to-swim shorts. For men, Moore stocks brands such as 2UNDR underwear, socks, shirts, and shorts that have earned her seal of approval through trusted friends who have tested them firsthand.

In fact, Moore has a personal rule when it comes to inventory, being that she won’t sell an item she hasn’t tested and believes in. This has helped shape Moore Active’s identity, creating an experience that reflects Moore’s own lifestyle and the products she genuinely loves.

Her space within Airline Plaza has allowed her to join forces with many businesses that have welcomed her and supported her move to Bossier.

“The Chamber of Commerce and Better Business Bureau and this shopping center have just been amazing,” Moore said. “I already knew Birdwell’s and 2Johns, so it was like joining a collab with friends.”

After years of operating through pop-up shops, online sales, and shared retail spaces, Moore is excited to once again have a storefront she can call her own and to be a part of a community that has embraced her business from day one.

This venture has allowed Moore to provide a collection of items that can’t be found anywhere else in Bossier Parish, so customers can look good, play good, and be Moore Active.
