Enjoy Summer Break With the Kiddos & Check Out These Bossier Spots

Summer break is the perfect opportunity for families to slow down, spend quality time together, and create lasting memories. Fortunately, Bossier City offers plenty of family-friendly activities that are both fun and affordable. Whether you’re looking to stay cool indoors, enjoy the outdoors, or try something new, there are countless ways to keep children entertained all summer long.
Strike Up Some Fun at Holiday Lanes
One popular summer destination is Holiday Lanes. Families can take advantage of the bowling center’s free bowling program, which allows kids to enjoy 30 minutes of bowling each day. Beyond the bowling lanes, children can also enjoy the arcade, making it easy to extend the fun. With concessions available, a comfortable, air-conditioned environment, and activities suitable for all ages, Holiday Lanes offers an excellent indoor option on hot summer days. Explore Bossier City’s Parks
One of the best ways to enjoy summer is by taking advantage of the many parks throughout Bossier City. This year, Bossier City Parks and Recreation is expanding opportunities for families with several free community events. Their Movies in the Park series includes:
- July 11: Frozen at Walker Place Park, 7 p.m.
- August 8: Space Jam at Hooter Park, 7 p.m.
- September 12: Space Jam: A New Legacy at Mitchell Park, 7 p.m.
Families can bring blankets, lawn chairs, and snacks while enjoying a movie under the stars. Free popcorn and drinks will be available during movies in the park.
Parent Jalisha Hardman said the Movies in the Park series has been a welcome addition to the community.
“Movies in the Park is such a great experience,” she said. “It is something new and different for the Bossier City area. It’s something you often see in larger cities, so to have something like that available in our community is really exciting. It was family-friendly, lots of fun, and I love knowing there are more movie nights scheduled throughout the summer where I can spend time with my child, enjoy popcorn, and watch a movie in the park, for free.”
Cool Off with Popsicles and Fire Hoses
Another exciting event hosted by Bossier City Parks and Recreation is the Popsicles and Fire Hoses series. Children can cool off, play, dance to music, and enjoy a sweet treat while connecting with friends and neighbors.
Even when special events aren’t taking place, Bossier City’s parks offer playgrounds, walking trails, open green spaces, and splash pad fun for families looking to spend time outdoors.
Event dates include:
- June 18: Hooter Park, 5:30–6:30 p.m.
- June 25: Walker Place Park, 5:30–6:30 p.m.
- July 9: Field of Dreams Park, 5:30–6:30 p.m.

It’s an affordable, hands-on activity that encourages creativity and appreciation for the natural world, and you may even get to see a few rabbits and get a ride around the farm!
Alicia DeCote, owner, says, “Our flowers started as a way to bring in beneficial pollinators to our vegetables, and the flowers are so pretty that we wanted to share them with the public.”
