Drive a little down Highway 71-South in Bossier Parish and you’ll come to a small community known as Elm Grove. It’s a country-like setting that is just minutes away from Bossier City yet seems far from the faster-paced feel of the Shreveport-Bossier metro area. Head east on highway 527 and in less than 5 minutes, you’ll come upon Faith Farms and Arena on the left. You can’t miss it for the signage and you’ll immediately recognize a large metal barn-like building which is the arena. The facility is used for many different events but for October, it’s all about Halloween as it is transformed into “The Terra-Plex” which comprises of several scary components for visitors to experience.
“We have a corn-maize, a haunted house, a zombie-shoot with airsoft guns, a simulated coffin ride, and a hayride.” Said Candy Wilkins who co-owns the property along with her parents and son Colton. “We also sell hay, we sell deer-corn, we sell beef, we do a farmer’s market; we do a little bit of everything here.” Faith Farms & Arena has been a private farm for over 20 years but only more recently has it offered a farmer’s market, corn maize, and haunted house attractions. “This is our 2nd year for our corn maize and haunted house; it’s the 2nd year for the farmers market too!” explains Candy. The farmer’s market takes place every other Sunday year-round from 12 noon to 3pm. “
But for the next couple of weeks, the main attraction at Faith Farms & Arena in Elm Grove is the Terra-plex which uses creative place making to combine agribusiness and the arts and offers an exciting experience for the entire family. “We brought the Gas-Light Players in last year, “ said Candy “they did a wonderful job with the haunted house, so we brought them back this year and they’ve become a part of the farm.” There’s several different “experiences” at the Terra-Plex including: Gentleman Death’s Shocktale, a Mortuary of the Macabre, Corn Maize of Mysteries, a Harum-Scarum Hayride and Zombie Shoot.
But, there’s plenty of other activities such as the corn maize and haunted hayride. According to Candy, “The corn maize becomes haunted at 7:30pm on Friday and Saturday night.” Another special feature she shares is on the Hayride, “You might even encounter a headless horseman during the ride, who knows what you’ll see!” Each event has its own admission fee depending on age and usually starts at the $5 to $10 range up to $15. “I have a combo ticket that you can buy for the Hayride and Haunted House for $21 and the final weekend for Halloween a $40 ticket lets you do-it-all!” explains Candy.
A Pumpkin Patch, Children’s Area, and the Petting Zoo will remain family friendly options for those choosing a tamer experience. Concessions will be available as well. Whether you choose a daytime experience or the spooky evening experiences, you’re sure to find something for everyone this Halloween at Faith Farms & Arena in Elm Grove.
