From the bold, flavor-packed dishes at Geaux Wings and Rice to the serene, detail-driven service at M Beyond Nails and Spa, these local gems reflect the richness and diversity of the Asian American experience. Let’s take a closer look at the stories behind these businesses and the individuals who bring them to life.
Spicing Up Bossier: The Woman Behind Geaux Wings and Rice
Tucked away on Benton Road, a flavorful fusion of cultures comes to life at Geaux Wings N Rice, a beloved local restaurant led by the passionate and determined owner, Jennifer Nguyen.
Jennifer Nguyen is an inspiring Asian American entrepreneur, but she says, “I’m just an ordinary Asian American girl.”
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Nguyen grew up immersed in her parents’ restaurant business, which she helped run from the young age of 19. When they eventually sold the family’s business in Texas, she felt called to continue what she had helped build, but this time, on her own terms in Bossier City, Louisiana.
“When the opportunity arose to take over Wings N Rice, a local restaurant with more than two decades of history, I believe it was all God’s plan,” she said.
Nguyen stepped in and transformed it into a thriving family business. That leap of faith has turned into seven years of ownership, hard work, and deep community connection in Bossier City.
“Running a restaurant hasn’t always been easy. It was pretty rough for me at the beginning,” says Nguyen.
But despite the challenges, Nguyen found strength in the daily support of her customers.
“I’ve met so many great people who love my food, and that’s what motivates me to keep going,” she said.
As a proud Vietnamese American, Nguyen brings the power of language and cultural connection.
“I’m proud to be an Asian American because I can speak two languages fluently. When a Vietnamese customer walks in and doesn’t speak English, I can speak to them in my language and take their order, it makes a difference.”
When asked what advice she would give to other aspiring Asian American business owners, her message is simple and strong: “Go for it! Keep striving! It’ll be rough at the start, but stay strong and don’t stop.”

Where Beauty Meets Culture: Inside M Beyond Nails & Spa
M Beyond Nails and Spa, a local nail salon, is more than just a place for manicures and polish; it’s a symbol of resilience, community, and the power of following a dream. Owned by Joseph Cao and managed by his siblings, David and Elizabeth Cao, the shop stands as a testament to hard work, family values, and cultural pride.
Born and raised in Henderson, Louisiana, Joseph Cao came from humble beginnings.
“I’ve always wanted to give back to the community,” Cao said.
His commitment to service led him to a career as an occupational therapy practitioner at Willis-Knighton Rehab.
“Elizabeth and David always wanted to do nails since they were young,” says Cao.
That dream found its home in Bossier City thanks to a longtime mentor and friend.
“The nail and spa’s previous owner, Miley, worked with Elizabeth and David and asked if they would like to take over the shop after working together for six years,” he said.
Bossier City, with its vibrant and diverse population, offered the perfect opportunity for this sibling trio.
“Bossier City is a hot spot of ethnic groups, and we felt like we could grow something meaningful here.”
Since officially taking over the salon and reimagining it in March 2025, the Cao family has been breathing new life into the space. With this transition, the Cao family has been steadily adding renovations and bringing in trending brands like DND, Honey Pham, and Two Guys. What truly sets the shop apart is its atmosphere of unity.
“We spend time outside of work, and honestly, everyone helps each other even without being asked,” says Cao. “We’re like a family.”
As an Asian American born in the United States, Cao says his identity shapes his approach to business and life.
“Last year, I had the chance to visit Vietnam. It opened my eyes to how lucky we are here,” he said. “Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month reminds me to be grateful. It’s about more than just culture, it’s about community and lifting each other.”
Diversity is central to the salon’s ethos.
“We’re proud to have team members from so many backgrounds, Vietnamese, Burmese, Chinese, Cambodian, and African American,” says Cao. “We give each other ideas on how to improve, not just in our work, but in how we support each other and spend time together outside of work.”
Cao’s advice to other Asian Americans who aspire to start a business is, “If you’re thinking about starting a business, just do it. We’ll never know if we don’t try. Dreaming without action is just an illusion. And if you can, find someone who can guide you, it makes the process a whole lot smoother.”
In a city known for its growth and energy, this family-owned salon is thriving not just through polish and design, but through purpose, people, and pride.
